KERRANG!'s Founding Editor To Head Up CLASSIC ROCK Magazine
September 29, 2004Brand Republic's "Media Bulletin" is reporting that Future Publishing has revealed a new senior editorial team for its Classic Rock magazine, with new hirings including Kerrang!'s founding editor Geoff Barton.
Scott Rowley takes up the reins as editor-in-chief and rock journalist Barton returns to the industry to become editor-at large, a newly created position, on the magazine.
Rowley, who takes up his position on October 4, has been promoted after four years as editor of Future's Total Guitar magazine.
During his time at the magazine ABC figures rose from 31,516 in 2000 to its current high of 43,113, and two regular special editions — Total Guitar Beginners Special and Total Guitar Bass Special — were launched.
Working with editor Sian Llewellyn, Rowley's initial brief is to reinvigorate the magazine, capitalising on the recent chart successes of rock bands like THE DARKNESS and VELVET REVOLVER alongside classic rock bands like GUNS N' ROSES and VAN HALEN.
Barton, formerly the founding editor of Kerrang!, takes the role of editor-at large after four years' sabbatical as a motoring journalist. Barton will spend time on the road following rock legends, as well as writing features for the magazine.
